Statutory Registration is the Key Ingredient
for Recognition of Natural Therapies by Health Funds
ANTA has had several discussions with the Federal Health Minister, State Health Ministers, Ministers Principal Advisors, the Chair of the Health Workforce Principal Committee (HWPC) and health funds regarding ongoing recognition of natural therapies by health funds.
All of the above have acknowledged that Chinese Medicine was not included in any of the reviews of natural therapies for recognition by health funds because it was a Registered Profession under the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme for health professions (NRAS). Ministers, Ministerial Advisors and health funds have also acknowledged that Statutory Registration of Naturopathy, Western Herbal Medicine, Nutrition and other modalities under the NRAS is a key ingredient in ensuring ongoing recognition by health funds (the same as Chinese Medicine has achieved).
ANTA is the only association to lodge the following formal, fully researched and referenced submissions with the HWPC for registration under the NRAS.
ANTA has received advice from the Chair of the Health Services Principal Committee (HSPC) that this committee has superseded the HWPC and that the ANTA formal submissions are now being considered by the HSPC.
Copies of the above ANTA Registration Submissions have been provided to all health funds and in follow up discussions, health funds have indicated their support for statutory registration of natural therapies.
We will keep members updated as further developments occur and information becomes available.
